What is TDEE?

TDEE stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It is an estimate of the total calories your body burns in an entire day. It includes calories burned through physical activity and exercise, as well as the calories your body needs to run basic processes like breathing, digesting food, and circulating blood.

Why is TDEE Important?

Understanding your TDEE can help you in several ways:

  • Weight Management: Whether you aim to lose, gain, or maintain weight, knowing your TDEE helps you adjust your daily calorie intake accordingly.
  • Meal Planning: It allows you to create balanced meal plans that meet your energy requirements and nutritional needs.
  • Fitness Goals: TDEE serves as a foundation for optimizing your diet and exercise routines to achieve goals like building muscle, increasing endurance, or improving performance.

How is TDEE Calculated?

We use the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs to perform basic functions while at rest. This BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor, which accounts for your daily level of physical activity. This method is widely regarded as one of the most accurate ways to estimate calorie needs.
